Improving Sensory Integration Through Physical Therapy
System of sensory integration dysfunction is considered to be one of the most common problems of children diagnosed with autism and Asperger’s syndrome, as such children can have various problems with the recognition and response to sensory signals. Occupational therapists employ certain approaches that assist children with the way they feel, touch and move. Such movements could be simple exercises that committed to proprioception, balance, and spatial orientation. It is, therefore, possible to train a child with autism to better regulate sensory information through structured Physical Education, thereby positively impacting on the child’s behavior, emotional state as well as his/her interaction with fellow human beings.
